However, even if there is an obvious source of excess moisture, termites may still be present, since certain species prefer wood that is higher in humidity.
The scent of mold
If the smell of mold or mildew is persistent in your home and you are unable to get rid of it or find its source, you might have a termite problem. This smell is due to the termites themselves and their activities, because they like to raise the moisture levels of their working areas.
Cracked furniture
Drywood termites can infest your walls and floors, as well as any wood furniture you have. When this species sets up inside furniture and it causes extensive damage, the furniture may start to crack. Termite swarms

Although they are not always indicative of an infestation, these small, pencil-sized tubes can be a sign that there is one. There are many types of mud tunnels termites can build.
